PICTURE RETAKE DAY
Monday, 11/6, will be our picture retake day! If your child hasn’t had his/her picture taken, please remind him/her to come to school dressed for picture day!
LET’S TALK ABOUT #BULLYING
Guidance Counselor, Matt Friedler, School Psychologist, Heather Greenberg, and Principal, Jeffrey Golubchick, will be hosting a parent coffee to discuss what is (and what isn’t) bullying and how we can work together to support the children at school. The last session will be held during the PTSA meeting on Thursday, 11/9 @ 7:00 in the Elementary School Gym.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
This week we will be starting a student spotlight feature! Each week, we are going to feature either an artist, athlete, or musician in our community. We are starting this week by including spotlights on our three athletes who are “leveling-up” to play high school sports, Cooper Melone, Nick Ramirez, Stefanie Sommer. We are also featuring musician, Kenny Bell. Please stay tuned each week for additional student spotlights!
WONDER PARENT BOOK CLUB
Did you love reading Wonder with your child and/or do you want to discuss the themes of kindness in the book? Please join School Psychologist, Heather Greenberg, and Principal, Jeffrey Golubchick for an informal discussion. The first session will be Thursday, 11/9 @ 9:00 in the Middle School Cafe, with a follow-up session at night during the PTSA meeting in the Elementary School Gym on 11/9 at 7:00. If you cannot make one of these sessions, join us on Wednesday, 11/15 @ 1:00 in the Middle School Cafe for the same discussion.
HIGH SCHOOL CHOICE NIGHT
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! We will have a HS Choice Night in our Cafe at the Middle School on 11/29. You will hear from members of the Warwick High School Team and members from the Chester Academy Team. The evening will start at 6PM and there will be plenty of time for Q & A!
LOCKER LOCKS FOR 7th and 8th GRADE LOCKERS
This week, repairpeople from BOCES are coming to fix the lockers in the 7th/8th Grade wing. Please remind your students on Monday that they can ONLY use locks provided by the district as the repairpeople need to get into lockers to fix them and will use a master key.
BAND REHEARSALS
For students in Grades 6-8, before school band rehearsals will begin Wednesday, November 8th, and will run through mid-May. Rehearsals will start at 7:00 AM. For students in Grades 4-5, after school band rehearsals will be held on Thursdays after school. The band experience is very important for your child’s instrumental music education, and it is often what children enjoy most about playing an instrument. During extra band rehearsals, we will be preparing for our concerts. Please make every effort to have your child in attendance for each rehearsal.
CELLPHONE AND PERSONAL ELECTRONICS POLICY
We are currently working with the BOE Policy Committee to create a Cellphone and Personal Electronics Usage Policy. While we’re refining this important policy, we are going to ask that students keep cellphones away (in their pockets or backpacks) at all times. Students having cellphones on display is distracting both for themselves and teachers and also wastes instructional time and focus. The use of cellphones in school, whether it’s texting, social media, videotaping one another, and/or taking selfies can also lead to bullying situations. Should an issue arise, it is impossible to monitor the aforementioned content. In general, it is simply not productive for students to use their cellphones during the school day.
If you need to reach your child or if they need to reach you, they are permitted to use the phone in the office. If students must bring their cellphone to school, we strongly advise that they wear clothing that allows them to keep their phone away. If a student doesn’t have a place to contain his or her phone (pocket, bag, etc.), s/he can bring their phone to the office for the day. No cell phones during the school day will mean a safer and less distracting environment for children, and this environment will give all children the opportunity to thrive.
