FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 13, 2017
|WEEK OF 11/13/17 AT-A-GLANCE|
THIS WEEK’S NEWS & NOTES:
HIGH SCHOOL SHADOWING
8th Graders have the dates for High School shadowing. Warwick will be full days of shadowing and students can take the bus with an older sibling/friend to/from Warwick High School. Chester Academy will offer half days of shadowing. If your child is shadowing at Chester, a bus will be available to pick him/her up and will bring him/her back to school for afternoon classes; lunch will be served at Chester. As with Warwick High School, your child can take the bus with an older sibling/friend to Chester in the morning. Important note: If your child is trying-out for a sport and he/she is shadowing at a High School on that day, he/she CAN still try-out in the afternoon. High School shadowing is viewed as a school field trip, not an absence from school.
LET’S TALK ABOUT #BULLYING
Guidance Counselor, Matt Friedler, School Psychologist, Heather Greenberg, and Principal, Jeffrey Golubchick, will be hosting a Principal’s coffee to discuss what is (and what isn’t) bullying and how we can work together to support the children at school. The last session will be held during the PTSA meeting on Tuesday, 11/14 @ 7:15 PM in the Elementary School Gym.
WONDER FIELD TRIP
Thanks to the generosity of our PTSA, we will be going to see Wonder the Movie as a school on Friday, November 17th. Buses will leave school at 8:15 AM and return to school by lunch. The field trip will be free for all students. Since it is so early in the morning, students will not be buying concessions and we thank you, in advance, for your support. For snacks, I have bought the students bags of popcorn that we’ll distribute before we leave school. There is not a permission slip needed for this trip, but please contact the office if you’re “opting-out” your child. Please ensure students take the bus or are dropped-off no later than 7:45 AM on Friday, as teachers must take attendance in homeroom. Students who are dropped-off after the buses leave will remain at school until we return from the trip. The whole school will be attending Wonder and we’re going to reschedule the trip to Lincoln Center that the Jazz Band was set to attend. Lee Compton will follow-up with parents of students in the Jazz Band.
This week we are spotlighting athlete, Gina Milazzo, who is a gifted golfer, and
Lizbeth Varela-Cordero, a talented artist.
WONDER PARENT BOOK CLUB
Did you love reading Wonder with your child and/or do you want to discuss the themes of kindness in the book? Please join School Psychologist, Heather Greenberg, and Principal, Jeffrey Golubchick for an informal discussion. The next session will be Wednesday, 11/15 @ 1:00 in the Middle School Cafe.
HIGH SCHOOL CHOICE NIGHT
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! We will have a HS Choice Night in our Cafe at the Middle School on 11/29 at 6:00 PM. You will hear from members of the Warwick High School Team and members from the Chester Academy Team. The evening will start promptly at 6:00 PM and there will be plenty of time for
Q & A!
For students in Grades 6-8, before school band rehearsals will continue every Wednesday morning, and will run through mid-May. Rehearsals will start at 7:00 AM. For students in Grades 4-5, after school band rehearsals will be held on Thursdays after school. The band experience is very important for your child’s instrumental music education, and it is often what children enjoy most about playing an instrument. During extra band rehearsals, we will be preparing for our concerts. Please make every effort to have your child in attendance for each rehearsal.
